Marian the Librarian Art Sculpture

Marian the Librarian Art Sculpture
March 6, 2024 Kate Gatski

Update: Unfortunately, Marian was not accepted into this art exhibition. These results have only spurred us onward;  a decline can be very motivating. We are pleased to share that we are currently working on another larger-than-life piece for yet another art exhibition. More details soon! If you are interested in Marian for your private collection, more details here

A Mother & Son Work of Art! Meet Marian! Ben’s mom, Jean, spearheaded a collaborative family art project for consideration in the Books Undone Show at Penn College. Marian is a life-sized figure (67″h x 36″w x 34″d) created by Ben and his mom. Ben built Marian’s frame and features, and Jean (a fiber artist) carefully crafted book pages into structural and decorative elements for Marians costume. I like to think of Marian as an intrepid traveler of the imagination, fearless in venturing into word worlds. We wish Marian the best of luck as she faces the juror for this gallery show. We’ll keep you posted!

Here are some details images (thank you Willow Springs for the photography!) of Marian. Check out how Jean folded the vintage book pages! Love it!
