In Progress, New Gatski Sculpture & Furniture

In Progress, New Gatski Sculpture & Furniture
August 16, 2012 MePush Web Team

We backed er’ down the past few weeks- we slow down to get creative. We’re working on all new Gatski handmade sculpture & furniture. It is always exciting and exhausting. Things rarely work out the way we expect. We are not trained designers; we use our sixth sense.  I’m sure it sounds a little elementary- but it works for us.

Ben says, What do you think of this?

I like it, but I would make the points rounded and make those bars a little longer. Kate says.

Ok.

What do you think?

I like it.

Ben turns and goes back to the shop. Over the years we’ve learned how to cut to the chase – rather than discuss a design at length. The three little children running around us have helped move things along – they’re not so interested in whether or not the bar is longer.

Ben makes adjustments as he is working and I make suggestions on a work in progress. We go back and forth on a single piece 5 or more times – it can take a day or a week or more to nail down a design.

The fun part is that we’re getting better at it – bit by bit. Such is the creative life.

Check back in the first week of September to see how we did.

Margaret and I often have design conversations on individual and collaborative pieces… have fun

Thanks Wayne. That’s neat to hear. The conversation is a unique one. For us, we’ve streamlined it over the years, learning to cut to the chase, rather than talking at length about a design. Its interesting to think about how art emerges from an individual – and how it emerges from a husband/wife team.
